Cooperation for peace and stability

In the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan was held a “round table discussion” on the theme “Cooperation for peace and stability” with regard to the 25th anniversary of the accession of our country to the United Nations.

The event, organized jointly by the International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended deputies, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, scientists, teachers and students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and Tashkent State Law University.

Z. Umarov, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan S. Prisner and others noted that Uzbekistan has consistently cooperated with the United Nations in promoting peace and security, addressing environmental problems, in the health direction, socio-economic development and others.

At the event, it was noted that the priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations is dealing with contemporary threats, preventing proliferation of mass destruction weapons, addressing of environmental issues and the full support of social and economic development, protection and promotion of human rights. Partnership with the United Nations is based on the peaceful policy of our country, respecting the principles and norms of international law. Uzbekistan is a participant to the main treaties and agreements on disarmament and preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Our country joined to the 13 UN Conventions against terrorism.

“In our country representatives of a number of UN agencies are effectively operate. In cooperation with them in Uzbekistan has implemented over 440 projects in sphere of public administration, environmental protection, agriculture, health, culture, science, education, energy, communications and others. Currently more than 70 such projects being realized” – was noted by Dilorom Husniddinova, Legislative Chamber deputy of Oliy Majlis.

The UN Development Assistance Framework for the period 2016-2020 in harmony with Strategies for action (2017-2021) in five priority areas of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As well as at the meeting the sides exchanged views on prospects of cooperation development between Uzbekistan and the UN.
